Food Allergies

My 17th month old daughter was diagnosed with food allergies since she was 7 months old. She is allergic to wheat, diary, eggs, peanuts, nuts, and peas. Now that she is a toddler, giving her the proper foods that's good for her and what she likes has been the most challenging. In search for good healthy and tasty foods I found that Whole Foods sell a variety of foods that my little one can eat. There are also tons of recipe books for kids with food allergies. Kids with the same food allergies that my little on has can eat: Rice Krispies, Plain Oat Cheerios, chicken, corn pasta, potatoes, veggies, and beans. I also found some wheat free and dairy free waffles and Ice Cream by Rice Dream (made of rice milk).  I have also made her macaroni and cheese. YES...believe it or not. I took her corn tubitini pasta and I added non dairy butter, salt, vegan cheese and rice milk to it. Came out just as creamy. So all the while I was limiting her food choices, found out there are LOTS of things she can eat. As far as milk goes, it's very important for toddlers to drink enough milk so they can have the calcium, I chose Enfagrow toddler soy milk. It provides my toddler with all the vitamins and nutrition she needs along with the good healthy foods I have found for her.

This is a great website for moms and dads who have kids with food allergies. You can learn a lot from this website such as recipies, ways to help your child with food allergies, an allergy buyers guide and more.

I just wanted to share this information because I know there are lots of moms out there that have kids with food allergies and how frustrating it can be to find good tasting and healthy foods your child can eat.

Happy Family

Tonight I made a recipe from Pioneer Woman Ree Drumond called Cajun chicken pasta. I have to say it was a big hit in my house. I followed the recipe all the way, but I did add extra cayenne pepper. You can go to Pioneer Woman's blog site and you can find her recipe there. Definitely try!!! http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2011/09/cajun-chicken-pasta/

With this wonderful dish I decided to add some garlic bread. My husband loves bread with his pasta. So I bought a french loaf, cut small slices, then in the same skillet I made the food in, I put olive oil, butter and garlic powder; then I added the slices and browned on each side. I have tos say, it was delish. I didn't have to turn on that hot oven. Quick garlic bread recipe!

With this delish meal I enjoyed some Pinot Grigio by Cavit. The pasta dish called for white wine, so I decided to pour a glass for myself. why not right? Enjoy!

Let the Games Begin!

Today was the official day for football to start. My husband is a Redskins fan, so he decided to have some of his buddies over today. Some were Redskins fans and some were Giants fans. Today was the Redskins lucky day! For today's game I made some killer wings, tuna macaroni salad, and I marinated some fresh tomatoes (which i got from myfarm share) in some balsamic vinagrette, olive oil, fresh basil and oregano, salt and pepper. My husband loves my wings. I season the wings with season salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. I then dust them in flour, fried them until they are done nice and crispy, dowse them in bbq sauce, then I bake them for about 10 mininutes so that the bbq sauce sticks. The guys always love that with a nice cold beer.
While the guys were downstairs enjoying their game, I was upstairs enjoying some Kris wine. This was my first time having this wine. One of the fellas bought it for me (got to take care of the cook). Anyway, I wanted to share this with you because I thought that the bottle was so cute and the wine was actually good. He got me the Kris Pinot Grigio. You can go to their website and read about Kris wines and what you can actually pair them with. http://www.kriswine.com/wines.php Enjoy!

Wente

So my sister lives in San Jose California and she has been really getting into wines lately. She is surrounded by so many wineries (I'm so jeleous). She has been having a great time visiting different wineries in Los Gatos and San Fran. She recently discovered Wente Wines and shared it with me. What is so cool about Wente Winery is that they help you pair the perfect wine with the perfect dish. You can go to their website www.wentevineyards.com and you can see for yourself. One cool thing that I really like was that I can enter what kind of wine I'm in the mood for; such as pinot grigio, and I pick whether or not I am looking for a recipe for lunch or dinner and amazingly they suggest recipes for you to make that will go so well with pinot grigio. How amazing is that? There is nothing like having the right wine and the right dish...that is like a marriage! I plan to purchase some Wente wine and make one of their dishes. Stay tuned for that!

Fabulous Weekend

I was so happy for Labor Day weekend because I love having my family home all toghether. We didn't have much planned but to go to a cook out and do a little grilling ourselves. Saturday I picked up my neice from college and we all went to my neighbors cook out. The food was pretty good. We had some jerk chicken, pelau, curry goat, potato salad.

Sunday we did a little cooking of our own. I made Korean BBQ chicken (compliments of Bobby Flay), my hubby made smoked bbq ribs, mac and cheese, and he came up with Plantain/Mango Fritters. Sounds weird, but the flavors are so good together. He wouldn't share the recipe with me, but he said he took a regula fritter recipe and pureed the plantain and mangos, and mixed it into the fritter batter. I drank Pinot Grigio by Berringer. If you are looking for an inexpensive wine but don't want to sacrifice the taste, you can try brands such as Berringer, Cavit, Ecco Domani, SIMI. These wines are all under $20.

We also were invited to dinner at another neighbor's house on Monday. She made us some Indian cuisine. For appetizers she had what they call a shishkabob, but it looked like a roll to me, but never the less it was so tasty. She also made some chicken breasts in some curry spices, dal, and rice. It was simple but delish. She served a nice Pinot Nior by Yamhill Valley which went well with all the dishes. This wine is made in Oregon. I loved it because it was so smooth and the flavors of blackberry, cherry, cedar and earthy flovors came together perfectly. I recommend!

Middle Sister

Believe or not, but there is a wine called "Middle Sister". When my family and I were in Lake Tahoe a few weeks ago, my sister bought this wine for me. I was so excited by just looking at the bottle. I am a middle sister. I'm # 3 of 4 so I can really appreciate this wine. Middle Sister wines are sassy wines from California. Did you know that birth order is commonly believed to have a profound and lasting effect on psychological development? Well the people that made this wine dedicated these wines to the sister in the middle - the one who always seems to have a personality of her own and steals the show. Not everyone has a wine named especially just for her. I'm so lucky!
You can enjoy these sassy wines with your favorite family meals. My sister bought me the Drama Queen Pinot Grigio. You can log on to their website and it can tell you all about their wines.

This wine has 76% Pinot Grigio, 12% Chenin Blanc, 12% Chardonnay (Very nice mix)
Enjoy!

Love of wine

I have been drinking wine for about 10 years now. I never use to drink it before until a good friend introduced me to it. It was the best thing ever. When I think of wine, I think of relaxing and good food. Some of my favorite wines are Merlot, Pinot Grigio and Sovignon Blanc. I recently discovered a good Sovignon Blanc by SIMI. It is a light wine and is not sweet nor to dry. It's just right. I also enjoy William Hill Merlot. This wine is not for a person now discovering wines. It's for the graduate wine drinker, lol. It is a decadent wine with red berry fruit aromas of plum, cherry, raspberry and a soft spice. It goes so well with a steak dinner. You have to try it!

I also had an opportunity to visit my sister who now lives in California a few months ago. She took me to two wineries. One called Wattle Creek and the other Testerosa. They both offered wine tastings which both she and I took advantage of. My favorite wine turned out to be the Malbec from Wattle Creek. I never tasted a wine so soft, hugs the palet, and has no after taste. It's the best wine I ever had. I can't wait to order more. I also suggest you try this one too.
