Fabulous Weekend

I was so happy for Labor Day weekend because I love having my family home all toghether. We didn't have much planned but to go to a cook out and do a little grilling ourselves. Saturday I picked up my neice from college and we all went to my neighbors cook out. The food was pretty good. We had some jerk chicken, pelau, curry goat, potato salad.

Sunday we did a little cooking of our own. I made Korean BBQ chicken (compliments of Bobby Flay), my hubby made smoked bbq ribs, mac and cheese, and he came up with Plantain/Mango Fritters. Sounds weird, but the flavors are so good together. He wouldn't share the recipe with me, but he said he took a regula fritter recipe and pureed the plantain and mangos, and mixed it into the fritter batter. I drank Pinot Grigio by Berringer. If you are looking for an inexpensive wine but don't want to sacrifice the taste, you can try brands such as Berringer, Cavit, Ecco Domani, SIMI. These wines are all under $20.

We also were invited to dinner at another neighbor's house on Monday. She made us some Indian cuisine. For appetizers she had what they call a shishkabob, but it looked like a roll to me, but never the less it was so tasty. She also made some chicken breasts in some curry spices, dal, and rice. It was simple but delish. She served a nice Pinot Nior by Yamhill Valley which went well with all the dishes. This wine is made in Oregon. I loved it because it was so smooth and the flavors of blackberry, cherry, cedar and earthy flovors came together perfectly. I recommend!
